Front Grille

Post by Wanting Z3 »

Hi,

Is the car meant to have a front grille. If so are there any aftermarket ones out there or can it be bought from BMW.

Thanks
Michael

Hi,
I made a front grill up from black aluminium mesh and some rubber beading, then secured it to the original horizontal plastic strips.

I notice the ZunSport grilles are designed to fit to your existing grille and is not a direct replacement.

Does anyone know where I can but an actual front lower grille.

Cheers

I don't like these grilles, sorry. If it were me, I'd find a used OEM lower grille.

You can get them from the dealers, I purchased the 'sport' mesh version (on the 6 cylinder models) for mine to replace the standard slat type. Was around £40-£50 from what I remember.

Looking on real oem here, they do a cover for the 1.9 models which I think fits in the gap? Part number is 51118398160 and this shows up as £19.62 on cooper bmw parts.

When I come to do this I'll probably just buy some mesh and fix it in myself. Something like:

I like that but would want a grill to sit flush with the bodywork rather than recessed and fastened to the existing grill/slats.

Painted in black like yours it looks ok. The one in his link in silver looked pretty bad though.

Mine is the original OEM one which is just black plastic and not painted, the silver one you refer to is the zunsport one which is also metal. I'm sure titantim has the zunsport one on his 1.9 which looks good. I don't like the zunsport bonnet grilles though :?

Ah, ok... I thought I was going crazy! haha. Well since yours is OEM, then I stand by my original statement. :D

I would not use the Zunsport one, even painted black. Find a new or used OEM one.
