Another alarming issue

Post by M3BMC »

Going to work the other morning unlocking the car caused the alarm to go off. There was no stopping it. Locking/unlocking, unlocking with key, key in ignition, starting engine, i was trying everything. Drove it down the road with alarm going until it eventually decided to calm down. Stopped for fuel and i made sure i didn't lock the car to save the alarm sounding again on my return, however it still went off just by me starting the engine. A big trawl through the posts on here and today I investigated the tilt switch in the boot. It was floating! Removed switch and so far so good, the alarm seems to bypass that switch and I am not deafened. I think the water came in through a leaking rear window at the corners which I have been trying to repair but am waiting for a dry day to silicone the bit of material under the rubber covering flap . I can't believe how much water is in the tilt switch hollow. Will have to bail out.

There is a drain/grommet under the tilt switch which I have pushed out so the water drains away now. I know where the water comes in and it is only heavy rain as it is from the gully around the boot. If you leave the plug in and just make a hole in it there will still be a small quantity lying in the hollow which could cause rust.

Thanks Brian, I will have a look for the drain hole. It was a bit dark and wet down there. Is the drain grommet removed from inside the boot rather than underneath the car.

I pushed mine out from the inside. It is quite a soft rubber.

The bung will fall out and then land on the inside of the rear bumper where it curves under the car, no spray from the rear wheels will get there so no risk of the inside filling up when driving in the rain.

If you unbolt the tilt sensor and lift it out the way you will be able to see easily.

I thought if I can't cure the leak at least the water can drain away quickly.

Tilt sensor is out and i can hear water sloshing inside it! Will see if it dries out in the airing cupboard. Drain plug pushed out and i am now rid of water. Thanks for your help Brian.

loads of tilt sensors on ebay £5-15 so not the end of the world if you can't dry it out.
