BMW wheel rim style 78 question

Post by Mcjazz »

Hi I have a set of BMW wheel rim style 78 I think they were called lightweight wheels in The Z3 catlogue They re 7.5 x 17 front and 8.5 x 17 rear on my 2.2 sport.

My question is does any one know the finish of the wheels originaly, mine have been painted a sort of dark silver and I would like to get them refurbished in the original colours if possible.

Many Thanks

Not really an answer, but here's a site with images of all the original wheels:

http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/

Might give you an idea of colouring.

Moray

Have a look at this thread
If you scroll down there are before and after picture of our old 2002 2.2i MSport wheels
I think the nearest match you can get is called something like "high power silver"

I think that looks stunning. Is that back chrome powder coat. Were they ok about doing the inside of the wheel in black ?

Even in the pictures the light reflect really well off the spokes.

Really like that.

Thank you

Nice contrast with the yellow right enough. At least I have narrowed the choice down to 2.

Many Thanks

Cheers Moray
They are done by The Wheel Specialist in Leeds. They call it Shadow Chrome and the black inner is standard. It helps to give contrast between the horiz and vert faces of the spokes.

Ferric Grey is a BMW wheel colour which might be worth a look at, could be the one you're after ;)

Thanks people all been a great help. Will call the company I use in Swindon who have been 100% with my wheels in the past to see if they can do these colours and I definitely like the shiny black inner barrel of the rim. Great idea there for reflecting the light and colour onto the spokes.

Thanks

Ok rang Platinum Alloys in Swindon who tell me the 2 chromes are the same but one gets more flash over the base black in chrome than the other hence the darker shade also they don't mask up the black on the inside all for £90 a corner.

They have samples for both so will have a look alongside the car I guess.

Thanks again will keep you posted.
