INPA Module Accessibility
INPA Module Accessibility
I am attempting to document the modules which are accessible using INPA software on the various Z3 models so that we can produce some solid advice on which cables/readers are best for people to use on their car. The results below summarise the cars I have tested so far using my BMTechnic USB-to-ODBII-to-BMW 20-pin cable combo. The strange mnemonics in the boxes indicate the particular INPA test used to read the module.
Please feel free to post updates on your own findings here and I will try and add them to the spreadsheet.
Cheers R.

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Great idea, I have been looking at this and must say I found it all rather baffling as to what does what. Do they cover ABS as just forked out £36 for a reset.

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Hi Moray,
ABS comes under either ASC or DSC, as they are essentially the same components. I have actually had INPA run a self-test on my car's ABS system whereby it operates the pump for 10 seconds - which is a decidedly weird sensation as you have to have your foot on the brake pedal whilst it does it!

Hi Robert.
A great idea to get the info together in one place. I've just PM'd you some data on our 2.0.

Ian

I shall ascertain and report.
Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Robert,
I have had a look at my M54 3.0i Build date 11/01. I get the same results as the M54 2.2i using the usb - OBDII - 20 pin cable.

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Updated with a bit more info from 2 cars tested at Lotherton Hall today - the 2.0 had both 20-pin and ODBII connectors, so I tried both, and it looks very much like the ONLY module the ODBII connector can see is the engine - I also tested an S50 Coupe and could not connect to anything other than the immobiliser/alarm and airbag.

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Tested mine today with INPA and DIS. All you can get from the OBD2 port is the DME. from the 20 pin under the hood you can get to DME, EWS, DSC, LEW (steering angle sensor), MRS (Airbags) and KOM (Instrument cluster).
I have an ADS interface on the way, so we'll see what that adds to the party.

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Robert as promised this is the list of available modules from INPA via OBDII and 20 pin circular connector on my car.
BMW Z3 2 litre build date April 2000
I am using a BMCables.Com OBDII to USB converter with an OBDII to 20 pin adaptor and quite a late version of INPA v5.0.6. The E36 is not even listed with my modules being accessed by going in to the E46 3 Series or E39 5 Series menus. Looking at what is available the only module I would like to access that I am not able to is air conditioning. My car has it fitted but it is not working correctly and I cannot find a suitable diagnostic in INPA for my car. There is probably a gas leak but shame I cannot get a code for it. Other than that all of my options are covered.
Cheers Chris
OBDII under dashboard: DME only
20 pin under bonnet: DME- MS42.0 v1.05
BMW TI-431 MAJERUS
Control unit MS42.0 for M52 with EWS3 v1.32
ASC Mk20 v1.06
BMW EF-43 KUSCH
Control unit ABS & ASC for E46 v1.16
Note: no diagnostics >4 mph
Airbag MRS3 v1.42
BMW TI-430 GALL
Control unit MRS3 v2.08
EWS 3D v1.18
BMW TI-431 ATELL
Control unit EWS3 v1.04
Instrument cluster E36 CAN v2.63
BMW TI-431 NAU
Control unit KOMBI 36C E36 CAN v2.05

Re: INPA Module Accessibility
Many thanks Chris, all added to the spreadsheet. Look like we are finally able to start drawing a few conclusions from the data.
