Insurance (quickie)

Post by komis »

Hi all,

Looking to buy my 1st z3 currently and I've been quoted £789 for a 96(import) 1.9er by Adrian Flux, then Elephant was a bit cheaper at £710...

Is this about normal for 25 yrs old, 7 years NCB and 0 motoring offences (i'm a good guy :P)????

I've noticed other ppl getting quotes of around £300-400 in this forum, but there was no mention of their age or details...

Thanks!

Have a look at http://www.confused.com they have always managed to come up with a very reasonable quote for me.

Broadly speaking, users of this forum have nominated Esure, Admiral and Direct Line as giving the most competitive quotes on their Zed.

If opting for Direct Line (as I did) definitely apply online, as there's normally a discount. Esure is also online, not sure about Admiral.

Thanks for the pointer,

I've tried them already but apparently they can't contact many of the listed insurers so I still have to go in manually :(

In any case, I was wondering what other ppl in similar circumstances might have been quoted, so I can see what a reasonable price might be.

£700 sounds a bit OTT for a mere 140BHP...

Thanks all :)

I would say so - but it depends on your circumstances I guess - I pay £700 for the ///M - but I have full NCB etc

If you are still looking, I am insured by Tesco. I am 27, was 25 when I first bought the car. Mine is a 2.8 and I have never paid over £660.

Give them a go, you also get a further 5% discount if you apply online I believe.

This isn't Mission Difficult Mr Hunt, It's Mission Impossible
Difficult should be a walk in the park for you.....

Mission impossible is trying to get your missus to understand that you need expensive performance parts for your Z4!!!!

to G17RDY:

That's cool, I live in Glesga (lol), in a decent area too (Garnethill)...

Your quotes seem too good to be true, why I even have a 7yr NCB + clean licence and I can't get these prices!!!!!!!

Do you think that adding my GF to the insurance might lower the cost somewhat?

to Ross:
Thanks man, those Tesco nutters want cose to £1000, surely they HAVE to be joking???

to everyone: seems I'm getting a rough deal, I think I will keep searching and I'll let u know how I get on...

Komis:

Im in sunny Cumbernauld!!!

It was cheaper when i added the wife to the policy even although she has had a claim on her own policy.....go figure!!

Try admirals online quotation, they are also the underwriters for elephant, so i beleive so they are cheaper.
Elephant could not beat thier quote for renewal.

Komis, I think the problem is the car’s an import, find a UK car with same engine and ask for a quote for that.

Hey Rayl,

You could be right, altough I tried the equivalent UK car (some sites won't even allow you to select LHD) and it's pretty much the same story... Must be something with my surname, it's not british at all :P

Anyway I would ideally like a left-hooker (.. not meant in a naughty way..) as I will be moving abroad in a few months and I would like to take the car with me.

Thanks for all your replies, you all seem to be a super-nice bunch of people :)))

Lol

Replying my own posts now.. Tried Admiral, quote is 679 (if paid by credit card).

Is it the area? I can't think of anything else... Oh I will add my gf and see if that works...

Continuing the insanity of it all, I was quoted happy by Sainsbury's bank, £460 is all they ask and I guess I'll be going with them :)))))

I got the quote through autotrader's site, i believe it probably is worth checking out if you're paying too much... Funny how you tend to overlook the obvious solutions sometimes eh?

Gonna get me a Zee, gonna get me a Zee, gonna change my job to hairdresseree, but what ppl say I don't give a shee :P

This car is already driving me nuts, i love it :P

I tried autotrader and it quoted me, 462.72 as well, the quote though on Sainsbury's web site took it to £550 when it was protected for my 2.0l
Not too bad eh! Better than the £1200 they quoted me on the phone last Nov.
