Airbag Warning Light....

Post by Spang257 »

My Z3 2.8 Airbag Warning Light on the dash recently came on - it goes off briefly with the ignition and then comes and stays on... According to the manual, I need to get it checked out by a dealer.

The local dealer want a total of £45.00 labour just to look at it...

Plus any parts that might be needed.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated in advance....

Have you moved the seats recently? Sometimes this can knock the wiring under the seat and trigger the light. Or have you had the seat out/wiring disconnected under the seat and turned the ignition on?

You need a reset tool firstly to get it reset, if it comes back on then you have a problem. If its come on after moving a seat the main problem is usually the connector plugs underneath that have been disturbed, which can be fixed with a repair kit from BMW or more easily by cutting the plugs and soldering the wires together. Other than this it could be an occupancy sensor on the passenger seat.

Hi guys - thanks very much for getting back to me.

g8jka - yes, I have moved the seats... I was hoovering the car out yesterday and moved them as far forward and back as I could for access. That makes perfect sense. I am going to have to check the connections. Will I still need a reset tool after fixing the connection (assuming it is that), or will the light go off by itself when fixed?

littlefeller - I'm in Nairn, near Inverness...

Thanks again for your time - very much appreciated.

You will still need the reset tool.

Rather than an airbag reset tool, I'd look at a full diagnostics system, which is only going to cost about as much as one reset at the dealer:

You can do your airbag light, plus a whole lot more.

Thanks for taking the trouble to help out guys - much appreciated.

I'll look at both options and give it a bit of serious thought. Having recently got married, it's a case of watching the pennies at the mo...

Thanks again...

There's quite a few members on the forum that have them, maybe someone close to you could help out.
