Z3 Foglights (2002 Sport) Ribbed or Clear

Post by fish »

Hi,...
I have a 2002 with one busted fog light which is £100 plus from the stealership....have been looking at whats around and cant seem to easily determine which is original, ribbed or clear? e.g my headlights are clear (as they all are), but I have vertical ribbed foglights....so was dubious I would get an exact match by going non OEM if you follow...

So, roughly speaaking, as a purist for spec, should the car have ribbed on ?

Also are all 96-2002 the same fitting..again, I see conflicting info on aftersales lights....

thanks

Seems they changed in Jan '99 - though which is which, I can't tell from the part numbers. Both seem to fit all models, though the later one is the only one that lists the ///M cars. Both are common to the E39 5-series. The change date is a bit odd, as I would have expected it to change with the facelift, so it might just be that the styling changed.

Also ribbed on my 2002 2.2.

incidentally i had to get a replacement for mine, got it cheap on ebay so I'd keep looking unless you're in dire need. think mine cost me £30.

Is this any good?

There are plenty of the ribbed glass variety on Ebay at sub £40.

My 2002 sport is ribbed. I paid £15 off ebay for a 5 series one as mine cracked too. Fitted in 2 minutes perfect match!

Manufactrer is ZKW....

http://www.zkw.at/uploads/media/zkw_aft ... ein_01.pdf

Part no 6317-837794 1 (N/S) & 6317-837794 2 (O/S Driver side)....

Comes up as a BMW E39 1998 to 2000 foglight....found them on e-bay easily in the £9 to £20 range (plus a £5 postage), where as searching for Z3 foglights though up much higher prices....I guess BMW must have used up a massive old stock of them after 2000, hence ZKW not mentioning 2002 Z3s in their catalogue etc...
