Practical Classics

Post by Brian4 »

I answered an as on another BMW forum for a Z3 for inclusion in a forthcoming article and our Z3 was chosen. I am off to Derby on Friday for the photo shoot so will !et you know how I get on.

Looks as if the Z3 is getting the recognition we know it deserves.

Give us a heads-up if your car gets into the magazine Brian and I'll make sure I get a copy. :)

The Z3 appears in the Dec issue of Classic MNotoring on page 62. The article was 7 different sports cars that are a bit more "modern". The Z was described as "grossly underrated" and "with it`s long muscular bonnet and stubby tail it looks pleasingly retro but not overtly so" It`s the main reason I bought mine, "classic" open top motoring with reliability and low runninmg costs as you still do most of the work yourself. Cheers, Steve.

Hi Ray,

Not yet unfortunately! I`m in the middle of building a new engine for my son`s classic mini, work is manic (I work away 2 or 3 days a week) and I`ve just had a "special" birthday for which the family gave me a new gundog so now I`ve got him to train!! I think the Z will have to wait until the new year. Cheers, Steve.

Wow to train a gun dog, I bet that's interesting and rewarding.
With the Mini rebuild, as you can see by my signature I have a sprite, the same engine as the mini, so easy to work on :rtm:
That's the only vehicle I touch, no computers or Engine managements involved just hands on

I know this is a bit off the subject of Z3's but what sort of gun dog have you have? I have a working Cocker and he's the best dog I've ever had! He doesn't work but he's a fantastic mut! He'd look great strapped in the passenger seat of my Z3 with his huge ears flapping in the wind!

Well had a good day out today and it was a sunny but cold so had the roof down once I had thawed the frost off it!!
Arrived at the studio which has a turntable to position the car as he wanted. The photo's took about 3 hours to complete. Just a couple of one’s I took.

I will find out which issue the article is going to be in and let everyone know.

Your car looks really nice - almost a darker shade than reality but I guess that is the studio lights.

Do you have to valet it, or does the magazine provide a professional to do it?

I gave the car a wash before I drove up and quick detailer lifted the dirt off.

I think the lighting is set up for professional camers and may not suit our cheap point and click plus it was sort of lit from above.

Hi Davejue1, he`s a Lab Retriever, Really unexpected as a present!! The last dog I had was also a Lab and he looked excellent sitting in my 1947 MGTC :) Alas both dog and car are long gone! The latest one (Murphy) has a pedigree as long as your arm (not that it means much) and all are working dogs so I`ve got high hopes of Murphy. Training is going to be a long process tho` we`ve made headway in the last two days. Steve.
