Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
Well I think the most expensive water pump arrived this morning from the US, well if didn't actually arrive I had to pick it up from Parcelforce !
So laid out £146 for the pump including postage to the UK then Parcel force wouldn't delivery it until I paid a further £41 for handling and VAT import charge !!
£187 !!! Or £37 from the bay !!!
And it only pumps water around !!

Phew - you must have deep pockets, looks a good piece of kit. What price peace of mind though?Woody1000 wrote:Well I think the most expensive water pump arrived this morning from the US, well if didn't actually arrive I had to pick it up from Parcelforce !

Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
I had a similar import charge on an electrical item last year, it seems that they select random parts to check. You will have piece of mind though once the pump is fitted.
Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
They have a good reputation for water pumps in performance cars.

Plan this job on my 1.9 this year but will probably opt for the more modest Meyle version for my little 4-pot engine.

Interestingly the pump for my M54, 2.2, 6 pot is cheaper and it specifies a metal impellar.Del wrote:...more modest Meyle version for my little 4-pot engine.

Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
I'm sure a water pump from the dealers is around £100.
Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
I suspect (I'm not 100% sure) that the infamous plastic impeller is on the 6-pot waterpumps. I remember a forum member Jonco changed his OE 4-pot waterpump recently and he had been surprised to find it had a metal impeller.Mint wrote:and it specifies a metal impellar.
Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
That's true - as far as I know it was OE. I fitted a Meyler replacement but as already said it's about peace of mind. My rough calculation was if it lasts a further 60k, then based on average mileage I'll be 75+ (if I'm still here). Problem then will probably be holding water not pumping itDel wrote:Jonco changed his OE 4-pot waterpump recently and he had been surprised to find it had a metal impeller.Mint wrote:and it specifies a metal impellar.
Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
Fitted new water pump yesterday and the one I took out did have a plastic impeller and was the original from new and surprisingly it was in perfect condition !
Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
Did you change the thermostat as well while you had the whole thing apart? What was its condition/ cost for new one/ purchase place? Thanks.

Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
....... I hate to say this, but you can buy a Meyle part with metal impeller locally in the UK for about 1/2 the price of OEM...
Re: Expensive Z3 water pump !!!
Yea I changed the thermostat as the temperature gauge never went to half way, a new unit fixed the problem for me. It's got to be worth changing as the plastic locating clips are prone to snap.
