Steering Wheel Compatibility
Hi All,
I have the facelift M steering wheel with part no. 32342229487 on my 2000 facelift Z3.

Are all M steering wheels from different Z3 facelift models compatible with each other? (Z3M/Coupe/etc.)
Thanks!

Re: Steering Wheel Compatibility
I believe that the only thing that matters is whether they have a single stage or dual stage airbag. All single stage wheels are compatible across the Z3 range, and all dual stage wheels are compatible across the range. Swapping between single stage and dual stage is more complicated, but lots of people have done it.

Well, I have a facelift.. so all these airbags were dual stage right?BladeRunner919 wrote:I believe that the only thing that matters is whether they have a single stage or dual stage airbag. Yep post >04/99 = dual stage
You can fit a single stage airbag to a dual stage car (you have to fit a resistor to one circuit) bit you can't fit a dual stage airbag to a single stage (ie pre facelift) car.
Besides the airbag issue you just have to ensure the slip ring is compatible (ie e36). They can be modified (eg Z4) but are a PITA to do and lets face it why would you fit a Z4 wheel in a Z3

Re: Steering Wheel Compatibility
You might want to get some protection for it...From what I hear, the red leather "bleaches" from hand moisture and sunlight...It may be just an urban myth though...perhaps google and see if anyone else has complaints about red leather steering wheels...and possible precautions...
But I really like it !

Re: Steering Wheel Compatibility
Oh thanks will look into it. We actually do get sun in the summer as well so good to prepare for it! I have some leather protector that I used on my seats actually, I think it makes them very slippy though.. not so good for a steering wheel!Southernboy wrote:You might want to get some protection for it...From what I hear, the red leather "bleaches" from hand moisture and sunlight...It may be just an urban myth though...perhaps google and see if anyone else has complaints about red leather steering wheels...and possible precautions...

Wow! That looks absolutely fantastic.
Re: Steering Wheel Compatibility
I have a colour coded steering wheel on my car, it came as part of the extended leather option. The only thing I’ve found with it is the leather on the rim seem very soft and can mark very easily especially if you wear rings.Southernboy wrote:You might want to get some protection for it...From what I hear, the red leather "bleaches" from hand moisture and sunlight...It may be just an urban myth though...perhaps google and see if anyone else has complaints about red leather steering wheels...and possible precautions...
