Chrome gills on dark body, or not?

Post by Koolflyer »

I've now fitted a chrome gill on the Montreal Z, and I'm still not sure :puzzle: Clearly this is totally down to one's personal preference. The poll I believe indicated 86% of those that took part, liked the combination. Is it not too much of a contrast on a dark colour, perhaps it might be more subtle on a silver car?? Even my 18 year old son wasn't sure  Well for the time being I'm going to run around half and half. Suppose the bottom line is..."its up to you", What are your preferences?

One of my project is to paint only chrome part the same color than my Z and keep the rest black. And my Z is same color than yours :thumb:

I personally don't like them on any colour Zed.

Each to their own, down to personal taste etc... but they're not for me.

When the Z3 first came out with the "chromeline" which also inclded the chrome front windscreen surround, I thought it was quite cool...Times and tastes change...I'm not as keen as I was then... Maybe as you suggest, it would be more acceptable on a silver or other light coloured body...But what the...chop and change...have both as the mood takes you...

I have chrome gills on my 2000 Oxford green car, looks great IMO, but that's what it's all about. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. . . . . . Or not! :)

Bought mine with the silver Gills on. Fortunately previous owner also gave me the original blue ones now back on.
Matter of opinion but i prefer the originals. Feel the line looks more fluent.
In love with driving again (its the Z effect)

As you can see on my pic, mine are colour coded Montreal blue, I have seen chrome on them to and have no issue with either to be honest. I know this won't help your discision but just an opinion. What ever you do works for me! :)

Cheers

Tks guys, it was just your opinions that I was interested in. As Barry said, keep both, perhaps one set for work and the other for partying :D :D

NOOOOO to Chrome gills on a Montreal Blue Z3. It'll just look like Bling. As someone said it will break up the visual flowline.
Perhaps on a red or yellow one.

I had chrome gills on my first Z3 which was a Topaz 3.0l. They looked great!
The car also had a few other chrome bits which made it stand out from an 'ordinary' Z3.... like door handles, boot lock and ACS hoops. I also added the chrome windscreen surround and 3rd brake light cover so the car looked very special and got loads of compliments. The guy who bought it off me was over the moon with all the chrome bits, even though I did swop out the ACS hoops for stock before selling!

It's true what Southernboy says though. Times change, and just a few years ago the chrome gills would sell for several hundred pounds because everybody wanted them. Now they are less popular.

Just keep both sets and dress your Zed to suit your mood!

Cheers.
