Extra connectors under footwell carpets

Post by Robert T »

Just been working on Keith's (freds dad) car and after removing both seats, we found a couple of extra yellow and green connectors under the carpet a little way in front of where the seat looms come out (same position both sides). I honestly have no idea what they are for! Car is a facelift 2.8.

Does anyone have any ideas? We know it isn't seat motors, seat heating, seatbelt pretensioners or seat occupancy sensor, as we found all those.

Cheers R.

I have them in my car Robert, I could only think they were for the seatbelt sensor, i.e. detects when you have your seatbelt clipped in, this was a factory standard for some countries, IIRC DC has them in his car, I believe his is an import.

I forgot about those, Brian. I think the North American market had to have proper seatbelt fasten detection and a gong, whereas Europe just got a simple timer. Does make you wonder how many pennies that saved!

From where they come out, and the fact that they are both sides, I'm pretty sure that's what they're going to be, and as there are no connectors on the seat that they could possibly marry up to, they left them under the carpet. Thanks for that. :)

The next question was going to be, "and what will happen if they get wet"... but we'll save that for another day.

Cheers R.

Good to see you today Robert and thanks for all your help. I've ordered the part we discussed so will call you when it arrives to do the reset.

I've had a thought about the connector. Could it be for the ejector seat? :)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Mine is a Japanese import but still right hand drive of course.
I'd like to think this might help but don't think it will. :(
