Good price?
Hi, got the zed booked in for a service 2 next week. Can anybody who has had
One done recently give any indication of a good price? Been quoted £300 pounds
From a bmw specialist who I have used before and has been very good.Hope
It will be money well spent!

Money for old rope! The Insp 2 is only an oil and filter change, with an air filter and plugs - very similar to the Insp 1, apart from allegedly removing the rear discs to check the condition of the handbrake shoes. If the handbrake works OK, or can be adjusted to do so, most garages do not bother with the usually time-consuming job of freeing up the rusted caliper bracket bolts.
This type of story makes me glad I can DIY it!

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I agree with mike, I normally use our local garage but £90for an oil and filter change is silly. Only cost me £40 and I could remove fuel pump fuse and build up oil pressure. Most jobs are now diy, my thinking is I would rather buy the tools and own them instead of paying someone else and still be better off. I also agree that an inspection 1 or 2 are an overpriced mot and oil and filter change, sometimes not even that thorough. As these cars get older receipts and careful maintenance count in my opinion far more than a fully stamped BMW service book with oil changes every 15-16k!

I do all my own servicing as well, as I feel my Z3 is now an age that it requires a certain amount of mechanical renovation as well as just routine servicing. However, some people like to use a garage and if £300 includes new plugs, oil & oil filter, air filter, coolant change, brake fluid change and general visual check - I don't think that's bad. BMW main dealer prices would be that just for an Inspection 1 with an Inspection 2 being double that.

Very true comments about how the average person could perform a basic service on their Z3.
In my case, as my Zed is my daily driver, I find it convenient to have a recommended indie service it whilst I'm at work. I'm afraid I can't be ars3d doing it at weekends (not the right attitude, I know.. )

I agree they are over priced that is why I asked the question.However for us incompetent

curing,This is the first time I have had this done on the zed in the five years ownership
But always have oil changed etc yearly and touch wood been good.

If I didn't have the ability to do my own servicing or for jobs beyond me I would look for a good independent for the Z3 rather than main dealer as unfortunately main dealer servicing seems to be around plugging the car into the computer and seeing what it says these days and they tend to be set up for the last few year models. As our cars get older you need someone to actually look at components and evaluate condition/deterioration mechanisms.
Even with our modern rides there are some jobs I would never consider putting the car into the dealer for, brake pad changes being one and even with warranty I have dropped the oil out and refreshed where the recommended intervals seem long (I've seen quality oil turned to tar in my day job in industrial gearboxes!).

I assume it's listed somewhere on the site already but it would be useful to know what items/things constitute a good normal service / inspection 1 / inspection 2
I have decided that I'm going to do my own work as much as possible going forward so have bought some quality tools, ramps, jacks etc... Now I just need a list of what to actually change please.? The "how" I can find off here, YouTube or my Bentley manual.

I used to do all my servicing years ago but these days the inclination to lie on a cold garage floor with skinned knuckles is well and truly over, its great though if you find draining oil and other fluids enjoyable. I've always used my local BMW dealer for the Z3 and its good to know a service book full of BMW stamps will make the car much more saleable when the time comes. I would rather rely on this than an amateur mechanic and empty service book. I don't know when Mike F last visted a BMW dealer but I know for a fact the dealer I use looks after the car and does the work correctly and to manufacturer specs where general servicing is concerned. They also tend to do reduced service rates for older BMWs which compares very favourably to your average indi

I buy all the oil, filters and coolant etc so I know exactly what's going in the M then just get my local indi I've used for years to fit/service.
Bmw stamps don't mean anything now days.. A service is only as good as the parts used and mechanic doing the work.

not bad for a glorified set of £30 MOT checks and an oil and filters change..
my Z4m was £900 and £1200 respectively.
But at least they put washer fluid in, even if it is full when the car goes in!!!!
