Have just replaced my first rear caliper with an OEM seal and boot from ATE.
I put the o ring in and smeared some red grease on it, as well as a light covering on the piston.
I have assembled everything and all looks good......however....
How "easy" or how much movement would you expect? i.e. I stuck my finger in the piston and pulled it back gradually, with a lot of force (not snatching at it) and was able to pull the piston out by say perhaps a centimeter or so? It goes back in nicely and seems to be moving ok, but was just trying to gauge if this was normal (i.e the level of force required) ?
Thought it best to check before doing the other 3 or fitting all 4 to the car etc ! Grateful for any comments....

Sounds typical - it should push back in smoothly, but tightly.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!

MIke,
Hi, thanks for that….so to be clear….with the caliper off and in my hand, when I hook my finger in the piston and pull like mad, its really hard to pull out etc…but does move none the less…..
Just kind of assumed that it would slide in and out a bit easier…...

The piston should push into the caliper body more easily than it can be pulled out. Thats a feature of the seal shape which is designed to pull back the piston a bit when foot comes off the brake pedal.

Ok, thanks guys - did the other rear and it felt the same. I think on a you tube video someone else said the rubber pulled it in too….
Yeah, so rears all back on now…just fronts to do etc, then bleed time !
