Water Collecting In The Petrol Filler Cap

Post by Fawdy »

Hi,

I've noticed water is not draining from the fuel filler cap area, it was full of dirt which I've cleared but shouldn't the water drain through a hole in the rubber boot? I can't see a hole to clear it?

Any quick fixes as I don't want the water to collect and rust.

Cheers

The drain hole should be there - mop the water out and you should see it in the fold just below the filler. Easily cleared with a piece of wire.

Yes, there is a drain hole to, a pipe inside the rear quarter which empties on to the ground under the car. This pipe is probably also blocked. Easily cleared with a thin piece of garden wire. I had to clear mine by pushing the wire into the drain hole and also by lying underneath the car and pushing the wire into the drain pipe from the bottom.

Be careful using wire in case you penetrate the rubber. It's safer to use eg the tube off a can of WD40 or similar then a quick blast with hose pipe when washing should keep it clear ;)
