Roadster valet storage bag - help please

Post by Gelert »

Hi :)

Can anyone tell me whether I can buy this in the UK please ? And, if so, where?

It's the Roadster Valet for the Z3.

http://www.roadstersolutions.com/product662.html

We, the missus and I, plan to tour Europe a little, camping, in the summer (France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy), and we are trying to look for the best 'extra storage' solutions.

Any other storage space utilising tips would also be much appreciated. Although the boot is already almost full !

I've already ordered a floor storage net for the driver's side, after reading about it here ; http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... =5&t=33062

Thanks very much for your help.

Gelert :)

Assume this is a suit hanger that goes behind the rear seats. If so - what does it hang from ?

hi
It hangs from the head rests via an elasticated hood thingy

You can see it here : http://www.roadstersolutions.com/page4.html

Worth checking out the space in front of the radiator. Light items only as they will be sitting on the front undertray.
I've carried 2 pairs of walking boots tightly wrapped in a plastic bag. If its a dry day , no need to wrap.
You have to be very careful in case the plastic flaps and blocks the rad or oil cooler. Best to road test on a wet day.

Depends on your model, but also check out the space behind the front wheel turrets.
I have jump leads and some extra tools in a canvas bag on the LHS (1.9)

Mike F had a write up (possibly in the Knowledge base) on camping in his Z3.

Things like this will let you pack much more in, but rely on having access to a vacuum to re-pack:

If you can't find the real thing - then buy some elasticated velcro straps from Halfords and use ordinary suit carriers - worked for us last year.

Sounds as if your boot is already full but if you want a tailored fit then http://www.roadsterbag.co.uk/BMW-Roadst ... ggage.html are great and still leave room around the edges for shoes etc.

Agree with henrycrun's comments on space behind turrets for tool bags etc.

Hi, I must say I really like the look of the luggage set. I feel a treat coming on! I take it you do the "bump removal" procedure first? :)

Cheers

And Lidl/Aldi sometimes do a car storage bag which is a perfect match for the standard Z3 grey carpet.

Not necessarily but better if you can. I do not have the CD changer but have the bump. The triangular long bag is a `soft' bag so if you don't pack the top left corner tight it will squeeze under the bump.

Simplest tip is to only use soft bags, then there is always room to squeeze another little thing in...
Hard cases (tailor-made excepted of course) are not an efficient use of space.

Then there's always the OEM boot mounted luggage rack, but you have to drill your boot lid to fit it...

Or I have seen a boot mounted luggage rack (non OEM) which attaches with straps so you don't have to drill any holes, and the materials are chosen so you won't scratch your paintwork as long as you're careful, but best to put a soft blanket or similar between the bag and the boot lid.

You could always pretend you're driving an ///M and take out your spare wheel and jack...lots of space to be had there. :D

Have a great trip!

Regarding the boot luggage rack and having to drill, when I sold my mk1 MX5 I kept the luggage rack and lo and behold it bolts straight on to my pre facelift (no drilling or straps) and looks like it was made for the Z3!

Set of cases available includes triangular soft bag that goes at the back of the boot.

Missed that it was a different case!

Thanks for all your tips so far. I think the suit bag and homemade retainers and, perhaps, headrest, or roll-bar, hood are a good idea. The other things mentioned too. :)
As for Mike's 'article' on packing a Z3, believe me I've had it printed out and in front of me for the last week. It's excellent and I thank Mike for sharing his experiences. Really really useful Mike. Thankyou. :))
