Is my Z3 a Sport model?

Post by brozier »

Hi,

When searching for insurance for my Z3 I've been asked if it is a Sport model. But I'm not really sure what options the Sport had as standard. my insurance was loaded last year due to all the "optional" extras fitted.

Heres the full options list from WebETK below.

The fact it has the LSD and M-Sports suspension makes me think its a Sport....

Any help gratefully received. I've searched the forum but couldn't find a spec list for Sport models....

Cheers
Bryan

I'd say its an 'Individual' (which had custom options, as Fish said), with the Sport spec.

I don't see why the insurance should be loaded, as the 'extras' are factory spec? Usually the insurance is based on the details they hold against your reg no, plus any aftermarket modifications. Even then, they shouldn't be much extra - my policy charges about £4 per year for each of different wheels, a boot spoiler and lowered suspension (not that I've actually done the last two yet!).

I have a year 2000 cosmos black edition, which again is full individual spec,Arizona sun and black leather msport pack 17" staggered alpina alloys and no loading what so ever

When I notified them of the change of alloys to the alpinas, they noted that I had not changed diameter from the standard 17 style 32s that were standard, they said no extra premium but noted they were now alpina

Adrian flux was the best quote over the last two years

You're lucky! I asked about swapping my wheels with identical spec ones but in a different pattern and they (Churchill) wanted £90 p.a. extra! I still have my originals... :head:

As I know M-Sports suspension is standard on all Z3 cars and LSD is standard on specific models of Z3 (6cyl?). Correct me if I am wrong.

Ignoring ///Z3Ms I think that you will find that M-Sports suspension was standard on the 2.2 and 3.0 Sport models only but could have been an option on other post April 99 produced cars. Not sure that the 2.0s had a LSD?

As far as I know even to date,if you buy an msport bmw it comes with the m suspension,

The pack includes the seats, interior m trim,m styling body kit, suspension and msport wheels

My 2.0 year 2000 zed has them fitted

18 months ago I ordered a new X1 x drive msport and I had the option to have the msport suspension changed for standard spec at the build due to the harder ride

Might be wrong but that's what the man in the sweetie shop said :?:

The sport version was only available in 2.2 and 3 litres as special edition run out models. These pre dated BMW ever doing Msport cars.

You can usually recognise sport versions by the split rims and silver centre console  there is no performance difference other than lowered sport suspension ( again no such thing as Msport when the Z3 was built :rtm:

The op car is an individual spec as per the special plaque it should have fitted in the engine bay.

Anyone could order an individual spec from the factory at a premium but they are pretty rare. BMW did offer a limited edition "individual" model which where all the same spec black 2 litres so far as I can remember. They also have the plaque in the engine bay.

I've only had my car two months, and I'm not sure about all the in's and out's of all the different models, but my log book says I have BMW Z3 3.0 SPORTS.

I have no idea if my suspension is lowered, I don't have a Scooby as to what split rims are, but I do believe my car is the dogs Bollox.

I love my Zed. :D

You are all correct re the wheels. I forgot the split rims where an optional upgrade in a similar style to the sport rims.

The sport was also available in the 1.9, 2.2 and 3 litre

Here is a link to the original price list which shows the differences between sport and none sport models

https://www.dropbox.com/s/73mcxm410ff7j ... 202001.pdf

In many ways the Z3 sport models where the forerunners of BMWs successful later Msport spin offs of standard models.

Re the V5's ......this has been discussed at length before and the only outcome was there is no consistency in how the Z3 was identified on the V5 ie some sport models say sport on the v5 but many don't, seems to depend on whatever the original dealer could be bothered putting on the forms at the time

Thanks for the link to the brochure.

Mine does not have the Clear 3rd Brake Light so probably not a Sport.

It does have the "Individual" Sticker on the NS inner wing. Although this seems to just be the interior which is the same as The "San Remo" http://users.belgacom.net/bmw_z3/Colors ... n_Remo.jpg aprt from no M Sport Wing mirrors.

Do you have a link to the Sport V5 discussion? I just got millions of hits on the search....

Thanks
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

There are usually a few subtle differences which allow you to tell if the car is a sport or not.

I notice in you spec list that you also have option S704A M SPORTFAHRWERK M Sports suspension, this was also part of the sport package.
