Post by jenmark »

Hi all, would someone be able to post
A picture or email us, I'm struggling to
Work out how the two wires from the
Heated rear window are connected to
The contact bush as they have been
Broken off and been block connected to
The car it came off

Take a look at this post: http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... 75#p368375

There is a small piece of wiring loom which inserts into the loom going up to the electric roof microswitch (on the left side of the car). It is a three way connector that separates, the heated rear windscreen piece inserts and joins it back together again. If your car has a manual roof, then the connector just attaches to the end of the loom, which will usually still be taped back on itself behind the left-hand lateral trim panel - you will need to thread it up to the near the hardtop mount.

What bits are you missing? Did someone just cut off the connector on the end?

Cheers R.

The wiring loom on the car is all correct
It's where the two wires come from behind
The head lining on the hardtop and connect
To the contact bush on the hardtop itself
The previous owner of the lid has done a
DIY job trying to get power to the window,
Just trying to find the correct way of
reconnecting the wires to the bush
Thanks

The rear screen wires are soldered on to the contact points on the locking mechanism, If you look closely at the passenger side you will see where they were fitted.

Does not matter, from memory both OEM cables are black (you may have black and red cables that are attached to the OEM ones).

I think we are talking about the top side Robert on the actual hardtop.

I have a similar problem.

My Z3 has a hardtop fitted, not sure if it left the factory with it or it was fitted later.

The electric hood does not work. The three pin connector for the microswitch is not connected to anything. Thete's a three pin plug there as well, and the two will connect together. But the plug has 0/12v on pins one and two, while the other plug ( for the microswitch) has connections on pins two and three....

I gave up, the HRW is wired into the loom so l have two plugs not connected.

Ah, that makes more sense. Was pretty sure Brian wouldn't have got it wrong. It sounds like the hardtop was previously fitted to a car with a third-party fitting kit which does not have the contacts on the mounts. The connector block would be used to allow the wiring to be disconnected to remove the hardtop. It will not matter which way round they are connected as it is just a simple heating element.

lightning, the wiring loom on the car will have three wires going into a connector block. The microswitch connector has just two wires coming out. The hardtop piece consists of both male and female connectors, and takes off a pair of flying leads for the HRW as well as having straight through connections for the microswitch.

Ah, l have a missing wire then, as my connector plug only has two wires (there's an empty hole with no pin)

I will have to get the wiring diagram, to find where the missing wire should go.
