Side skirt advice

Post by Pierrick »

Hi all, I need to replace my side skirts as they are in quite bad condition.

My car is a 1.9L 1997 model.

Do you think this wil fit my car?

Hi,
It has been my experience that the 1.9 skirts are not compatable with a 6 cyl (wide car) as ok the prefacelift like yours and mine the rear wings are wider on the 6cyl so the sill is a bit different where it meets the rear wing (wider I suppose).
I have seen a chap selling refurbished 6cyl sills that he bought for his 1.9 car and only after refurbishing found out they are not correct.

Real OEM part numbers will give you a concrete answer.

My other 2p regarding used sills. My experience of used ones showing a little rust in a photo actually meant the rust is quite deep on the metal and when I started sanding I ended up with holes so now looking at fiberglass alternatives.
If that doesn't work then I'll keep hunting for non rusted sills.
Drivers side are usually damaged in accidents so there always seems to be more passenger side ones for sale....

Are they available new from BMW?

Most Z3 parts seem to be.

Mugs you have a PM.

When I saw the other e-mails I was starting to think, maybe I should convert my car to a wide body... it seems like wide body parts a more commun!

And my wings are not in perfect condition...
