Winter Storage

Post by thomasbrown92 »

Hi Chaps,

Looking for an official BMW Z3 indoor car cover - does anybody have any pointers of where to find one?

I am periodically checking eBay, but no luck so far...

Many Thanks

I dont think there is a genuine indoor cover….there were OEM outdoor covers in silver though….thye were on BMW direct in ebay but I think they are gone now I got an indoor cover from Hamilton Classics. Its for a Z3/Z4 and fits fine. No mirror pockets, but not an issue. Elasticated base etc. Was about £110, in Supertex or something?

There was an official BMW Z3 tailored indoor cover. I have one.
Mine has the ///M logo across the bonnet, but I think there was one with a 'Z3' decal as well.
It comes complete with a lovely little 'elasticated ring' which slips over your steering wheel to keep it nice and cosy!

But sorry, they are quite rare and so apart from searching eBay and keeping your eyes on this forum, I can't help you much in finding your own example.

Hi Tom

Is this the cover you were looking for? I don't know if it's an original BMW cover or not. Anyway if you do locate one a word of warning. This particular type is an outdoor cover to keep the rain and bird crap off, but it does not have a soft/fleece lining. Last January and February you may recall we had a lot of very strong gusty winds, so where the material was touching the paintwork it actually annoyingly scratched the paint, albeit the car was clean and free of dirt etc before I put the cover on. This year I will place a soft blanket over the wear points or maybe splash out and buy a Hamiltons Moltex outdoor but fully lined cover £160. http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/acatal ... eSoft.html. They will be at the Classic Car Show at the NEC, so perhaps the nice people can persuade me to buy one . One more point, although the bottom is elasticated which in normal conditions works fine, again in serve windy conditions the wind will come underneath and will lift the cover off the front and back. I remedied this by getting a good length of lightweight webbing and securing wheel to wheel. I'm told that the Hamilton cover has some ties already built in.

Note. Looking at the photo you can clearly see where the abrasive points would be, hope this helps...Pete

Hey Pete.
That's the outdoor one which is rubbish. As you say, it's rough inside and not breathable which results in moisture being trapped and condensation forming. Might as well wrap your car in a tarpaulin....
The indoor one however is much better quality. It fits well and has a thin soft fleecy lining. It's not design to get wet, but would soon dry out if it did.

Re. the Hamilton Classics Supertex cover, I bought one last December. I'm really pleased with the indoor cover It's really well made and kept my Zed snug in the garage all through last winter. Best of all Hamilton will give you 10% off as a BMWOC member.

The bad news is the cover is already on now... :(

Hi Chaps,

Thank you for all your insight.

It looks like Hamiltons are the way to go, since BMW covers are so rare.

Tim, I hope the car has been treated with Waxoyl - the better, German stuff.

I have an indoor fitted cover for sale if interested. It is not a BMW one but fits very well. Used it on my M// and my 2.8. Has door mirror pockets. Let me know if you are interested.

Regards

Hi Jonathan, have you sold your car cover please? If not, how much we're looking for, for it?

Tony.
