The looks I get!

Post by mellsworth14 »

Of course when you drive a Z3, you have to expect to get looks while driving it. I was woundering whats one of the more memorable looks or comments that some other owners have gotten, while having there Z3 out and about!

Towards the end of one of Spokey's Bunch of Hunts runs, we slowed down to pass through a 30 zone. There was a zig zag in the road with a band of 'country walkers' standing in the mud on the left side.....you know the type, waxed anoraks and trousers tucked into their socks.

They all stopped to watch the parade.

They were dirty, but not nearly as filthy as the 10 or so Zeds that went pootling past. Obviously, we all had the rag tops down and had been doing some serious driving.

Just as I passed them, one chap said to his missus in a VERY loud posh voice....

"I say....what's this? A meeting of poseurs anonymous?"

We smiled at the irony, coz after an exhausting day following the madman in the Z1, the LAST thing on our minds was posing.... :D

Actually, I reckon the best ever look I got was from that copper behind his speed trap when we drove through that Norfolk village at exactly 30MPH. Face like a smacked arse.

The 80 year old who was less than impressed with my behaviour in a pub car park up in the Lakes (I think it was Lakes II) after I donutted round and round and kicked up clouds of dust - as I walked past her she looked me square in the eye - and said "yob"

"don't you know it's raining" from a women passenger in the car next to me when stopped at a roundabout exiting the M1, top down, about a month ago.

It had just started to rain and there was nowhere to stop and put the hood back up. :dunce:

lots of memorable quotes including....

Post by maurice »

Quote 1:-…in a carpark, bloke on a scooter after comparing his handlebar width with the gap between my zed and a wall… “I’ll just go round the long way – don’t want to scratch it”.

Quote 2:- Many times in the last few weeks (indeed many times each winter) with the hood down, after having my face and hands toasted by the hot air heater, and my a**e roasted by the heated seat – “aren’t you cold?”.

Quote 3:- “Nice car – give me a ride home and I’ll shag you”. Honest.

(Unfortunately, he was a bloke like me. Fortunately he was joking.)

Some of mine have been:
1. My teacher saying, "Your spolied rotten!"
2. Hot college girls checkin the car, (and hopefully ME) out.
3. Stoping and getting gas always requires people to ask questions and check it out.
4. My Drama coach saying, "I have to see this I've never had a student who had a BMW, and I probabley never will again."
5. I was at the bank with my dad, and one guy from school walked in, and said (in a very loud tone) "matt...I heard you bought a BMW Z3! wheres it at wanna see it (I didnt drive it, road salt,) and one of the bankers said, yea did your dad buy that for you? And I happely repleid, "No I have a job, I can buy my own car!" I love saying that, because I am spolied, but I do work! I'll work anyday for my Z3.

Looks

Post by ssjcox »

Best look I got was whan i drove my zed into the local BMW garage to get my back window sorted and then realised that my last nights knickers were in the boot! and had been moved when i had to go "round the back" to find out the roof was beyondrepair!!
never seen so many mechanics looking at one car!!

Was the damage to the rear window related to the knickers being in the boot?

What was going on round the back??? Is this a technical term that I'm not familiar with?

I think we need a fuller explanation!

What has surprised me about my Z is that people are far more willing to let me out at junctions etc than I thought they would be. I'd expected it to be perceived as quite an aggressive car, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I have noticed more boy racers trying to cut me up though!

I notice that cars always drive as close as possible behind which I thought maybe was to see what the car is but then it could also be due to having no back seats anymore :D I seem to have a lot of trouble with boy racers trying it on but also friendly smiles from the ladies - which is nice.....

We got some really funny looks from people as we drove around Crief during last months Zeddy Scottish Meet. It was minus one, and we all had the roofs down and we wearing big wooly hats and gloves. :D

I find that onlookers attitudes can vary - memorable ones have been:

Milford Haven, when asking directions from three leering 13-year old girls - 'Give us a lift, mister!' Jailbait! Reply -I haven't the strength!

A580 / M6 roundabout, from a medallion-wearing forty-something in a Granada - 'You're too old - too old!' Reply - You're never too old!

Plymouth - from a Council workman hanging out of a Plymouth Council truck in dense traffic - 'All you lot are f-ing nobbers!' Reply - Don't you like your job? I can take it away this afternoon if you like!'

Coach driver in Salzburg - 'Very English, very English!' Reply - 'It's made in America!'

Yes - I find the Z3 (Bright Red( is given lots of priority when trying to pull into major roads - people like it, particularly lady drivers.

i find that the combination of being really scruffy with around 2 weeks of unshaved facial hair, big-ass jeans and trainers and a stinky old t-shirt, and a sparkly cosmos black Z3 2.8 tends to confuse some people, so i get a lot of funny looks. but generally, since i got the car, posh girls are suddenly a lot more interested in me, which i think is hilarious. (but also very handy. i'm not complaining AT ALL).
brighton hippy girls (even ones i used to know really well) mostly think i am (or have become) a t*sser. which i think is quite amazing, considering i'm exactly the same person i was before, but just with a nice car instead of a 91 rover held together with gaffa tape. but interestingly, it's the 'organic nut roast', supposedly open minded hippy crowd that seems to be the most prejudiced, whereas a lot of people i meet in west london actually ignore the car completely until they get to know me first, and it seems like they make no assumptions about you as a person just because of your car. i always thought it would be the other way round.

This evening, on Bazza's RND cruise.............

7 Z'ds and a guest porker all in a line waiting to be waved on round an accident by the Plod.
Quite pretty WPC doing the waving as we all trundle past with hoods down. She looks at us with an amazed expression. As I trundle thru as tail-end charlie I ask "There's a spare seat if you want it?"

She grins, shakes her head and says - "Mental........."
