Oh dear maybe i should have checked

Post by jonzee »

Gone in feet first again, Bought a nice black leather interior for the z to replace my tatty cloth seats, The car they came from was a 2001 1.9 facelift my car is a 2000 1.9 facelift build date december 1999.
It appears that the wiring is different, can this easily be rectified as I am a complete numpty when it comes to electrics or is it back to Ebay for an earlier set.

You can get conversion leads to go from the old plugs to new ones from BMW

part no 5 in this diag

Some people I believe have joined the wires together with aftermarket plugs/sockets but not so easy.

Can be done fairly easily with a connector block if you just take your time working through each loom

You can swap the metal bases/frames over so that you keep your existing motors and wiring.
If I recall correct that will solve the electric motors and seatbelt pretensioner wiring.

Then just the seat heater wiring will need modifying (if applicable).

Thanks for all the help guys, with the BMW replacement wiring is it just plug and go or is their any soldering or splicing involved?
I had a look at the bases reference a swap over is it fairly simple or an involved task, i don't have heated seats so that is a blessing.

Very simple, if I recall correct just 2 nuts and then slide it towards the rear of the seat to unhook 2 metal tabs.
Also need to unhitch the cables that adjust the backrest but very easy to just bend the metal the holds the cables captive just enough to let them out.
I think there was a guide on here or elsewhere that I may have looked at.

Just saw a discussion about this over on Bimmerforum.
BMW make a wiring harness adapter that should allow plug and play, bit pricey but simple solution:

Item 5 in the diagram.
