BMW z3 stoneguards opinion

Post by Austin09 »

Hi all!

I'm the proud owner of a z3 and having just got her resprayed I'm looking into getting some stoneguards. I have a blue paint job and I'm thinking of getting black or clear guards but can't decide. At the moment I'm leaning towards black to make it somewhat reminiscent of the old 911s.
What's the consensus? These are the ones I've been recommended.

I would go for magnetic black stone guards (but then I'm a little biased )

I can do you a set for £18 inc p&p, details here: https://zroadster.org/pages/bmw-z3-magn ... ne-guards/

Thanks but I'm going to go with vinyl. The last magnetic guards I had had dirt trapped underneath and caused loads of scratches underneath.
Also I may end up getting clear.

How thick are they out of interest?

I use the black magnetic ones.....I think they were from Titan

Just take them off every time you clean the car, wash the guards and dry off, never had a problem
The only bad thing about owning a Z3 is bedtime .......boing!! time for bed said zebedee

I've just ordered them in black from fostersracing only £19.99 including delivery.
If I change my mind and go for clear they are simple to change over.
I'll post pics for everyone

I'll second that.........carbon fibre look adds to the 'bling' 8-) :)

I have 3M clear on mine. I had the same dilemma but chose clear on personal preference. When all said and done it's easy to change if your not happy with your decision. :)

Only if that's the real stuff (real cf). Otherwise it adds to the "rice" IMHO.

i see many wide pre-f/l and f/l z3s having stone guards, since i have done very few miles (k/m :P) with the new wide fenders, do i really need them? or it is mostly for cosmetics?

I guess it depends on your mileage. The more you do the more protection you get. I like them from a cosmetic point of view. They look good and so easy to spray a different colour to give the Z a different look.

What I really think would set the car off well is to have a couple of fixed air ducts like you see on the porsches.

Had this same problem. Silver wide body and putting on new wings, didn't really fancy clear or black. I just made a template and got some silver carbon effect 3m vinyl. I think it was from eBay and was only £8. Enough to do two sets and a practice bit!!
