Air con leak.

Hi all. Looking through the front lower air intake I can see there is a load of greeen gunge around the joint section of the air con pipes. Obviously a very slow weep as nothing on the garage floor. Is there a simple way to fix this, a leak sealer or something, or will it mean a strip down job?

I imagine this will be a strip down job as the air-con system is pressurised. To replace the hose you will need to get the air-con de-gassed, carry out the work and then re-gassed.

The gunge is a luminous dye that they put into the system precisely to tell whereabouts a leak is occurring. The good news is that you have found your leak.
I had a specialist out about three times to mine last year and have ended up with a new condenser (the radiator looking thing behind the fan), a drier that sits behind the offside headlight with the horns (if you ever wondered where they were), a drive belt, and several regases. All good now. The condenser is hugely expensive for a BMW part but not too frightening for a pattern bit. About £300 for rad and drier fitted if I remember correctly. Much cursing went on whilst the guy fitted it so I would pay someone if I were you. The bit you don't want to fail is the evaporator because that is buried deep up behind the instrument panel somewhere.
