Replacement door actuator
I am going to replace the drivers door actuator on my 99 Z3 & see that gsf do one for £63 incl., however they list 2 types, one for vehicles with infrared central locking & one for vehicles without. Mine has central locking from either key or the black 3 button key, is that the infrared type????
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Replacement door actuator
.....No, it's not infra red...the key sends a coded signal to the receiver which is housed in the rear view mirror. That signal is coded to your car. If you replace the actuator with another OEM unit, you will need to have it coded to match your key. The after market option is to replace all the actuators including the boot and petrol cap flap locks.

OMG really? I thought I could just replace the one faulty actuator!Southernboy wrote:.....No, it's not infra red...the key sends a coded signal to the receiver which is housed in the rear view mirror. I don't think Meyle do electronics - they seem to be more mechanical parts from my experience, but I may be wrong.... suggest try Andy - Spurs Fan here on the forum..he may be able to help you.

Re: Replacement door actuator
Now I'm really confused! Are you saying I can just replace the actuator unit that is attached to the drivers door lock or do I have to replace the entire car set
If I can simply replace the one I can get one locally, they have them in stock, it was just the infrared bit that was throwing me.

Re: Replacement door actuator
You only need replace the one unit and have it coded to your key. The coding to the key is quite simple, and takes a minute. I don't recall the seqence of pressing the buttons, holding until the red light fashes etc etc...but a BMW mech will know how to do it -or try googling "replacing BMW Z3 door actuator" - you may find they tell how to match the part to you key code.

Re: Replacement door actuator
......here you go...seems you won't have to code the new actuator... read through this forum post and see what parts you need and the comments made...
