Steering Wheel Cowl Screw?

Post by sirius-c »

Well I'm completely Confuddled! :puzzle:

I changed my steering wheel today and during the process I removed the lower half of the plastic steering cowl, I saw 1x screw underneath, unscrewed it, unclipped the lower half of the cowl, proceeded to unplug the connectors, replace wheel etc.......

anyhow here's where I'm confused, I cant remember where this 1 screw goes!
there's only one hole (a square one) on the underside of the bottom half of the steering cowl, but the screw wont grab when I try to put it in the hole.....so,
I removed the lower half of the steering cowl again to see if something was amiss, but theres no threaded hole or anything on the alloy beneath other than another square hole.
I dont think anything fell out like a speed fastener, but I had the mats out, the torch out and had a look around regardless.

Help me out here I'm going mad, where and how does this 1x screw, screw in?

This is on a 1997 2.8 BTW

You've lost a little black clip. The screw goes into the black clip and spreads it.

I will see if I can find you a picture

Aha, makes sense, thank you so much for your reply.

well I don't know where the clip went, I searched everywhere, I even took the drivers side footwell trim off.
