Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Hi
Been trying to get an Exhaust Cam Position Sensor & want to get OEM or better
but am struggling to find a supplier who doesn't hide behind "OEM QUALITY" which
only means its a copy. Does anyone know of a supplier for genuine BMW Z3 spares?
Also can anyone help with the part number as i can't find it on RealOEM.

Cheers Bob

Re: Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Unlike other car makes, the BMW sensors don't seem to carry any makers name - probably done deliberately. The only ones that carry a makers name are the MAF sensors - Bosch 4-pot and Siemens 6-pot. Based on other cars I have worked on, things like the cam sensors are make by the same manufacturer who provides the ECU - so I would guess they follow the MAF sensors.

Re: Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Hi Bob,
So I take it code 12 has reappeared?
It could still be a fault elsewhere but if you wish to replace a sensor try www.motormec.co.uk.
Their website is not particularly helpful since it always seems to be under construction but it has contact details and if you ring them they are extremely knowledgeable being BMW specialists for 30 odd years. They can generally offer genuine BMW parts, a quality OEM alternative, or sometimes a budget option but for something like a cam sensor they will not offer a budget choice as they are more trouble than they are worth. I purchased a Meyle cam sensor from them about 3 years ago and had no problems with it.

Personally I'd always advise the dealer for cam sensors and the like. There are too many people that have bought sensors elsewhere and always end up buying a genuine one from the dealer. This is one case where you should bite the bullet and just spend the money once.

Re: Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Bosch and Siemens make a lot of the sensors as they also do the ECUs (motronic for the Bosch and MS for the Siemens).
FEBI (bilstein) do some of the oem sensors, certainly the TPS sensor as I just picked one up aftermarket and the BMW PN is machined off as is common for OEM parts sold aftermarket.
Pretty sure for the cam sensors they are either siemens or bosch to match the ECU.

Bob,
Had this very issue when fitting new cam sensor to my 2.0 model. Did lots of research and ordered a Hella sensor through SKS car parts at a cost of £57.Did not come with spare O ring, but works great many months on.

Re: Who Supplies OEM Spares?
Sensors (cam position and crank position) are one of the few things that I would go OEM. Simply because of how many aftermarket ones don't work.
Salvage ones should be OK as sensors either work or they don't.
Use RealOEM to find the cars that use the same sensor and pop down the local scrappy and search one out. Slight downside is that scrappies know their value and will probably charge about £30 for one, but that is about 1/4 OEM price.
