Hi,
Does anyone know what this part is, it was fixed to the underside of my front bumper, outside temperature sensor? It has a large round metal face on the other side, which must face down towards the road surface.

Re: Part identification
If you have the winter pack, i.e. heated washer jets then I believe this is the thermostat for that, ref the location, I have seen these mounted in the vertical sides of the lower air scoop before but not in the bottom of the trim?
I would be surprised if there is not a part number on it somewhere.

The part number is visible in the photo, just not quite clear enough to see.

Thermo switch heatable spraying nozzle
Well Done Brian H!
"It's a "thermal switch" ... and has something to do with "heated washer jets" that swindon matt uk mentioned. I learn somethign new everyday. You can't really notice the warmer water with your bare hand, butwill notice that they work on icy days where they jets easily disperse ice." from another forum....

Maybe I need to go to specsavers, but I can't get the number on the top to read 8357632. It looks more like 1 373 415 to me.
The "Thermo switch heatable spraying nozzle" is part #12 here: http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/Z3-Ro ... witches_3/
No supercession info is given, so I can't see if there is an old part number that might relate to what is printed on the item.
What is probably more useful is this post which shows where it fits on the car: http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... 70#p267070
Cheers R.

Re: Part identification
The number you can see Robert is the part number for the plug connector, the disc part underneath is the Thermo Switch. Part 12 below
I knew there was a thread regarding the location of the thermo switch, could I find it
Various switches - BMW parts catalog
Edit: I see you have already linked to this diagram Robert.

Wonders of the net
Is the thread you were meaning Brian. it shows where the thermo switch should be fitted.

Fed by fuse 24 . If you unplug it you can test it's continuity by sticking it in the fridge for a few minutes and then see if there is any resistance measurement with a test meter. 0= working unit.
