Chrome handles

Post by Gordon13 »

Looking for some chrome door handles, which seem to be a little rare, to say the least.

I then found these on a popular auction site,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/BMW-E36- ... RTM2065547

Has anybody used them? are they any good ?

I'm rather sceptical, given the price.

These were the ones I was recommended by a previous buyer on the forum who was pleased with the quality, although I've not got round to purchasing them yet they are still in my watch list

They are probably similar to the 'Wellstar' handle covers I have been using for about twelve years - no problems, apart from using black silicone in place of the sticky pads for the handle surrounds. They are a lot cheaper than buying complete new door catch/handle lifter units, and after many years they are still in good condition.

I bought mine second hand, both having holes for locks, and blanked both off with BMW Club badges, as the lock holes were rather deep, and could have gathered rainwater.

Thanks, may well be interested. Are they the same as Mikes or like the Ebay ones?

How did you fix them to the original handles?

And, most important, how do you value them?

Bought a set from Taiwan 6 years ago and still as new today. I was very sceptical about quality but they are undetectable from an original chrome part. Don't pay silly money for a set, they almost certainly all come from the same manufacturer.

Regards.

Be careful if you buy cheap as the chrome finish can yellow over time.

I've got the Wellstars trims on mine and they are the best however a passenger managed to scratch the lift handle which wouldn't polish out. The Wellstar trims don't appear to be available anymore or I can't find any for the Z3 so I bought a cheapish set off ebay and replaced the Wellstar trim, however it does have a yellowish tinge to it.

If anyone knows a Wellstar supplier please shout up.

Tim.

My Wellstar trims were labelled as being for E36 saloons, which is logical - hence the lock hole on the passenger door.

Thanks Matt, only started with a simple question and seem to have a few more shiny bits than I bargained for.

Recon they will look smart, I'll pop up a pic of them fitted but that may be a week or so.

In the mean time here they are polished up.
