Typically the M has a different strut 51242497679, not found on the gas strut site :(

These guys will build you a set for a reasonable price http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk/, I bought a pair from them for my last Z although since then the website has changed somewhat.

Maybe worth a call?

Cheers

I got mine from ebay - let me have a look at my history.

EDIT: Bought from an ebay shop called tshopabs http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tshopabs (item: 131433221999 - BMW Z3 1995-2003 Tailgate Boot Struts Gas Springs Lifters x2 SET)

I know it says Z3 - but I fitted these to my M and they are perfect

EDITX2 - Link to the exact item from that seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3-1995-2 ... hbadypq8AA

I can confirm that the RealOEM/BMWFans list the gas strut as a different part number for the ///M. The boot lid is essentially the same but for the numberplate and boot badge placement, however it looks like it is heavier because of this and consequently the ///M part is rated at 650N instead of 580N. As suggested, the non-///M part will likely fit, but the lower rating means that it won't provide as much assistance.

Every Z3 driver should inspect these once in a while or even better, exchange them on time! When they get older the plastic balljoints can break. And usually they break when closing the trunk. If you are unlucky the broken gas strut will move itself between boot-lid and chassis when you slam your boot lid closed with major chance for paint damage or even worse.

Fitted mine today, better than before but I still have to lift the boot halfway before the new struts take over.
