when I pull the silver knob out the lights work ok but the dash light take a bit of fiddling with the switch to come on but don't dim if I rotate it I've done a search but can't find anthing up to date about any fixes any one point me in the correct direction please ie can the dimmer track be fixed (soldered)

the knob inside gets worn and drops it own dust onto the resistor - common fault and needs a replacement switch - Andy (spurs fan) probably has some - easy fix.

You can fix it with a bit of solder, or make it permanently lit with some wire...

Just fit a new one to mine
10 minute job and 40 quid for the switch from bmw.
