Bonnet release lever.

Post by yme402 »

Has anyone got any advice for ensuring the bonet release lever is as it should be? Ever since I got my Z3, it has required a pretty hefty 'yank' to get the bonnet to pop up, and in my opinion does not seem all that robust. Is this normal, or is there something I could do to improve things?

You might want to give the 2 catches a clean and some grease as well as checking the cable along the length and if you're really energetic, get some WD40 down into the cable sleeve to lubricate the movement.

Along with Southernboys advice on lubricating the catches the two rubber bump stops at the front of the inner wings can be screwed in slightly so that when the bonnet is shut they are not being compressed as much and as long as the 5mm panel gap bonnet to bumper is maintained.
The sprung loaded catches on the bonnet itself can also be adjusted so that there is less tension on them. Worth adjusting both as puts less strain on the cables.

If you do take the cables out for lubrication please take note of how the cables fit back into the catches and try the locks and release of the before you shut the bonnet as it is a REAL PAIN to open if the locks don't work.

The instructions sound simple but be careful.
