MOT advisory, seepage from steering rack...

Post by Warrior »

Passed the MOT yesterday with two advisories.

Front pads wearing low and slight oil seepage from offside of steering rack, about which the guy on the phone said 'you might need a new steering rack?' It seemed an off the cuff remark - he's not the mechanic - and it sounds rather drastic?

Not being mechanically minded all thoughts and advice welcomed!

The steering rack shouldn't be the area of concern for leaks.... If you have a close look at the system, you will see there are two banjo bolt fittings. These have sealing washers and that is the most likely areas where a leak can occur. The rest of the system should be just fine...
