Had a look on the bimmer forum and found this regarding the oil
The original PN for the Z3 oil is 54348410308. It is a kit that includes some oil and a set of screws.
The actual oil inside is Aral Vitamol ZHM (amber color).
If you want it cheaper you can buy the oil separately - it is the oil for the Z4 (only 250ml) PN 54340394395.
If you want it cheaper - it is the same hydraulic oil (for suspension and roofs) as used by Mercedes PN A000989910310 (1liter)**
There is an even cheaper aftermarket product (which may even be the same producer) - FEBI Bilstien #02615 ZH-M

**GSFcarparts say they carry this item:
PN #980ME0010 SUSPENSION FLUID-1ltr General Use. All Models with Self-Levelling Suspension £ 5.30

Worth reading some of the posts on there as the level is not what you would think, as far as I made out it should be in the centre of the circle embossed on the reservoir side.

Bound to be someone on here who can confirm, thankfully I have a manual hood!!

do you mean the hydraulic reservoir? If so the level is low as standard. nothing to worry about.

There are level indicators on the reservoir. If it is below that level you have a leak which you need to sort, as it is a closed system and the fluid has nowhere to go. Leaks are rare, but I know of one owner on here who did have a leak.

oil level all ok found the marks on the side, there is a lot of room above the level mark that makes it look 2/3 empty
