non woeking key fob

Hi, i have a non working keyfob, i think its the original key fob the buttons make the led light up and i have changed the battery, does it need to be married up to the car ?

now working repalced battery and followed instructions on program my key. com , key in ignition on off 4 times i think then i reprogrammed both keys work great now...
