How much further out?

Post by Boosh »

Hi all,
Don't worry, even with such a title this post will not be about the past referendum...
I'm far from being a wheels specialist, and my Zed is a 2002 (facelift) 1.9, but currently at the garage awaiting a heart transplant. I might have come across a gem, that willtheyfit.com reckons will poke out 50.1mm further than current OE style 55. As I cannot measure on my car whether that would still be within (or in line with) the wheel arch, or if that would cause issues with steering, I'm asking the wisest bunch I know. If that helps, the wheels are 8.5x18 ET15 (235.40R18) ACSchnitzer type II.
Keeping my fingers crossed,

Boosh.

Hi'ya buddy.... do you have a bit of Prestik, 500mm of thin string, a small stone and a tape measure ??
If you do, tie the stone to one end, use the Prestik to stick the other end to the outside top of the wheel arch, and measure the distance from the string to your current tyre.... then calculate the extra 50mmm the ACS wheels will occupy and you'll know exactly what to expect... take into account the tyre will taper inwards a little towards the tread on the outer edge of the rubber ...

Hi Barry,
That's exactly what I would do IF the car was with me. But it's actually 40 miles away, having a new engine fitted, hence my asking here...
Thanks for a quick reply, as always, though,

Boosh.

ah... apology.... You need someone with the same model to do the measurement for you then... Maybe send Andy (Spurs Fan) a PM... or "Mrscalex" - I think he's re-building a 1.9 at the moment.
Here's a handy video explaining how to calculate the ET yourself if you're interested..

Thanks, Barry.
I didn't think of knocking directly on members' doors. I will try, hoping not to be intrusive and to get a positive response. Cheers,

Boosh.

A 15 offset is too low i run a 8.5 38 offset and thats flush i ran as low as an 18 on the rear (pre 2.8) and could bury the 15 there but no chance on the front you'll be talking 23mm further out they would likely foul too as tyre is incorrect.

As you can see an et38 @ 8.5 is flush
