LPG reversal

Post by mrscalex »

Looking at buying a breaker to get the 2.2 engine I'm after. It has an LPG conversion.

Do I need to do anything to reverse the LPG if I'm just swapping the engine, ie just leaving all the LPG gear behind?

Is anyone interested in the LPG gear if I buy the car?

2002 Z3 2.2 Titan Silver (Cookies) - Keeper rebuilt having been bought with a seized engine

Plus Willy, Kodak & Maycee - All 2.2 Sport projects. Yes, 6 is a lot of Z3s :)
Always happy to try and help with spares :)

No, there's nothing you need to do. Any gas in the tank will just stay there unless the solenoids are opened by the lpg system, which obviously won't be happening.

Thanks. Do you think I'll have to pay danger money to the metal recyclers when they take the car away to discharge the gas tank?

Is it inadvisable to remove the full LPG system myself to sell?

Have you tested the engine?

Long term LPG usage can damage some engines.

I'd certainly want to listen to the engine running but it depends what you mean by test it.

I did wonder about potential damage...

Just hear it running, listen for a slight miss fire.

Friend of mine fitted LPG to a brand new petrol auto L200 pick up.

At 60,000 miles the valves were damaged, or not sealing, or something like that.

He did explain why but I can't remember.

From memory I think he said the engine runs at a slightly higher temperature, or something like that, eventually causing damage.

I'm sure someone will come along soon who knows.

I know a few dealers who've been stuck with PX cars that have had problems with LPG. They are generally avoided in the trade.
