Cruise Control for a 2001 2.2 Auto

Post by dennisedlin »

Given this car will have a fly by wire throttle and uses the M54 engine, would the retro fit cruise item in the knowledge base for the 3.0litre work for me. Just 3 parts are listed.

I would have thought so. The interface is listed as being for the 2.2, and would seem to be the FBW throttles - see http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/65718380054
The other parts are even less specific. There was a spate of retrofits on here once it was discovered how easy it was, so it might be that there is already a 2.2 owner on here who has done it.

Cheers R.

Don't think any of the parts are engine size specific? I've fitted it to my M52TU which has a throttle cable. I believe all the dual vanos engines have an electric thottle in the inlet manifold as part of the Dynamic stability control system, the cruise control interface that plugs into the loome under the steering column controls this system. Finding the E36 column switch may be tricky.

And an E36 cruise control column switch, interface goes between the column switch and the plug in the loome.

Parts still available from BMW, but around £200 + VAT and 4 days from Germany........considering if it's worth the price.
Hard top going on first along with fitting kit.
I'll start a new thread next week with some pictures....the new cars needs some TLC.

Wow!! That's a bit of a hike! When I did mine in 2010 the interface was £45 and I got a S/h column switch off eBay for £25, it was only £180 as an option in 1999.
