Wheel Nuts Upgrade?

Post by Lancsbob »

Looking at my Sports Wheels & thought the wheel nuts look pretty awful
& wonder if anyone out there knows of an improvement. Looked on Ebay
& found some bright looking ones but are there any better ones?

You can buy chrome looking wheel nut covers but they are made from plastic.
I've had mine several years now and they have never come off, and makes the wheel nut look nice.
Have a look on eBay that's where I got mine.

Arn't they a pain to remove when you need to take the wheel off?

The set that I bought came with a device to remove them, so they are not a problem to remove.

You can buy them in different sizes, so make sure you buy the correct size

Think I got mine from Ebay. Plenty bright enough...

Funny thing was, unbeknowns to me the actual distribution store was 3 minutes away on the next industrial estate. We even share the same landlord :D

Don't buy cheap, make sure they are the same tensile strength as the OEM ones. When buying new the tapered part of the wheel bolt needs to be 60 degrees IIRC.

Do the plastic covers fit the locking wheel nuts as well?

Yes, but when fitted they stick out more than the other ones. It's only a case of cutting a few cm of the length of the cover so that the are the same length as the others.

I bought some of the plastic covers recently for my E90, they were very loose and I didn't fit them as they would have come off almost instantly.

This type didn't fit the OEM locking bolt as it doesn't have a hex head.

A standard set of bolts on ebay are about £18 per set

You can buy the covers in different sizes for different size wheel nuts. My locking wheel nut has a plastic cover on them giving it the appearance of a normal bolt to keep the wheel on, because of this the chrome cover sticks out further than the the others so I had the cut about 5mm off the chrome cover to make the look all the same.

Demon Tweets supplied me a set of McGard chrome locking bolts plus a set of new shiny bolts which virtually match.
