I remember reading something about this about 10 years (or more) ago, not sure where or even if it works, and this may not even be the article I was thinking about. This is a link to one of the saved pages for Z3's I have

My 3.0 Z3 could do exactly this, but not my 2.8 or my mrs 1.9 even though that is newer.
I think It all depends on what wiper module is fitted but I have no idea why they were different

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I have tried this many times on my 3.0 over the years and have never managed to master it.

It does depend on the wiper module. You have to have the module for cars with headlight washers to have the programmable wipe feature (no idea why the feature is linked to headlight washers!). I have the correct module at home, waiting to be installed so I can tell you what the part number is - mine was bought second hand on ebay.

could be the reason as the 3.0 I had had headlight washers but not the other 2,
However Brian H looks to have washers and he cant get his to work?

Maybe there are other variants and not all the headlight-washer modules support the programmable delay? If I remember tonight I'll have a look for the module and see what the part number is.

Can't say l've ever found it annoying.
Although my MG Metro had six intermittent speeds on the wiper stalk back in 1986.

That's quite common for cars with variable wipe speed. A couple of my cars have a bit on the wiper stalk that you turn to adjust the speed - half a dozen or so positions is about right.
