Hi guys
Bit of an odd one. On my way to uni this evening, had the battery warning light come on on the dash, and got flashed a few times so pulled on to the shoulder for a quick check.
The fan and lower pulley mount appear to have fallen off and the aux belt has also come off, and there was a stench of coolant and a lot of steam. The belt is still in one piece and has not snapped, and the coolant level is still above minimum, and the engine did not overheat on the dial.
Any ideas what I could be looking at?
Having a proper look in the morning in daylight, but should be fixable, right?
Cheers in advance for any help
Aux Belt fell off
Re: Aux Belt fell off
Sounds suspiciously like you water pump has failed - shaft broken. Waterpumps are not expensive e.g. £40 plus fitting and it is wise to check whether the fan flying off has damaged anything else e.g. the radiator. Hopefully just a pump £40, new belt £15 and some fresh coolant
Re: Aux Belt fell off
Cheers dude.
Going to dismantle it next week and sort it out. Fingers crossed its just the pump

And thermostat while you're at it. Plus check the idler pulleys are spinning nicely. Might want a new belt too.
