Hi All,
After running the DIS GT1 software; Diagnosis: starter motor. I got the following;
See repair manual,
<TIS> <FRU No. :1 2 4 1 ...>
I went into TIS but can't see how to input the 1 2 4 1 code. Are there any Diagnostic experts out there that know how to use this code?
I imagine its a reference to a repair procedure.
I'm trying to troubleshoot a non start which is increasing in frequency. Inpa has identified 112 cam sensor faulty, but the starter motor may also be on the way out?
I think its both sensor and motor. I've had non start with no crank and non start with crank.
Diagnostic advice on non start
Re: Diagnostic advice on non start
found it. TIS chapter 1241
Check power input,
refer to Technical Data
of pull-in and holding windings in solenoid switch.
Check excitation winding, carbon-brush holder and open-coil
armature winding for short circuit to earth.
Check armature for shorted turns - use a standard test probe.
Checking that excitation winding is not necessary with permanent
magnets.

Re: Diagnostic advice on non start
Basically, 'check starter motor'. I had no idea (and am rather dubious) that DIS and INPA can give feedback on the starter motor on a basic car like the Z3. If you have a recurring cam sensor fault (I assume you cleared the code and it's come back) then change that.
