Just wondering...how old are you?
I'm 27.
I'm surprised to see how young these numbers are skewing, as I've seen, here and elsewhere, more than a fair amount of curmudgeonly annoyance at the prospect of the Z series becoming something other than a vehicle for retired doctors and well-married housewives. At another forum, I saw a thread devoted to "Why are you selling your Z3" and one of the top answers was "decreased exclusivity due to falling prices." I would expect that anyone with enough enthusiasm for a vehicle to visit a message board devoted to it would welcome interest from a wide(r) variety or people, if only to promote the longevity of the vehicle in the popular imagination.
Would it be better if the Z3 ended up a forgotten curiosity owned by a handful of aging professionals, like the the Triumph TR6 or the Alpha Romeo Spider, or if it -- and the idea of it -- were to thrive and recapture the imaginations of subsequent generations the way some of the most famous bit of rolling metal from the past 50 years have -- Corvette, Mustang, Bel Aire...

Well, I'll try and push it back up again. I'm 33.
Got my Z3 at the tender age of 26. Worked out that I had just about saved up enough money by the time it arrived - I was a bit short when I ordered it

If anything, they're getting more exclusive round here. Everyone seems to be switching to Z4's... that's Cheshire for youSt_G wrote:At another forum, I saw a thread devoted to "Why are you selling your Z3" and one of the top answers was "decreased exclusivity due to falling prices."

25 until October. Got the Zed in March. Insured in Pamelas name for 1000 Euro which aint bad. We also have a Patrol. Never into typical "boy racer" cars like Civics. Will be buying some sort of M car as soon as I can, or maybe just a 3.0i Z3.

30 When I bought my Z3 when I was working in Luxembourg and needed a fast car to drive to The Hague (Netherlands) almost every weekend.
The story behind the car was that I read a book about visualization. Somewhere in the book there was a story about a car someone really wanted and but a picture on his desk. Then he got a job offered the the lease car was the car he had a picture of.... well nothing to loose.
So I bought a 1:18 model of the James Bond version and 2 years later I was living in a hotel across a BMW dealer in Luxembourg and on monday morning I say th Z3 I always wanted (engine and color) parked in the 2nd hand show room..... By the and of the week it was mine!
(The 1:18 model of a Ferrari still did not work but the Audi A4 avant did )

DJBlack: I'm amazed at your premium. Is it for you alone (i.e. policyholder only to drive)?
I'm 20 years older than you, I have an agreed 8,000 miles per year restriction and a voluntarily increased excess, and yet I pay twice what you're paying for my 2.8 with my wife and I as named drivers.
If yours is for more than one driver, I'd be very interested to know who you're insured with, because mine is up for renewal next month.

Well I had my silver Z3 2.2i Sport for my 42nd birthday and my husband had a new A3 ............ but guess what...........
Yes every time the sun comes out I hear the roar of that 6 cylinder engine......... the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr of the roof opening and that low exhaust note................ as he disppears into the sunset
Seriously though since having it I am the 'new Stig' ..... considering I have only had 1.2 Renault Clios before and am not a wild driver........ I seem to have come to life big-style.
The only thing is that bloody annoying white van drivers keep trying to cut me up....... so I get to the traffic lights ...... I put my foot well and truly on the gas ....... and leave them in the dust ........... and oh yes ........ didn't realise the joy of having a convertible ........ you can do interesting
hand gestures by putting your arm( and fingers) high in the air ........... great for annoying van drivers
