New Z3 Owner

Post by cnic69 »

Hi All,
Just brought home my new Z3 2.8 Roadster.

Overjoyed with the exhaust note and the drive of the car.

Just a quick question at first, how do you remove the std business stereo in the car?
And will i require an adapter lead to fit a Sony Mp3 stereo?

Picture attached - what do you think?

Carefully open the two doors at the sides to reveal four holes. Use allen keys or skewers (cocktail sticks aren't strong) to release the 4 metal clips.
You will need an ISO to BMW 17 pin adaptor, around £5 delivered on ebay.
Welcome that's a great lookimg zed did it have all the things you wanted - rare to find a 2.8 facelift too.

I am not sure if they are metal clips. When i removed my stereo from the previous Z, those holes were alan bolts. They needed unscrewing by a very small alan key.

I think allen is the word and yes, that was the case in mine, too. Haven't seen a DIN-sized BusinessCD with other fixture method than those.

Very nice car and excellent wheels.

Give us the step by step for your stereo upgrade as I'm thinking of puting an MP3/CD in mine too.

Cheers,

I have recently put a Kenwood MP3 player in my car which has the ACdrive technology so you can search for tracks with voice guidance to save looking at the display.
Very pleased with it and got it off the net for less than £200

It took a while to find one that i really liked and the facelift looked better than the others i looked at.
Thanks for all your comments guys, i am well chuffed with the car.

Stereo is a business one and it has two little door flaps at the side, tried poking allen keys in and no joy yet, although it was getting dark.

Sorry you need to unscrew using a star shaped torx, or an allen key may work.

I have now fitted the head unit, ISO lead was okay but the amp on the front left speaker caused a problem.

Replaced them with 2 infinity speakers but now need to replace the rear ones.

They look like about 10cm size, any recommendations as to what would be good?

Also what about pods, i have another 2 5.25 inch speakers by infinity that i could mount but they would need to be raised by about an inch, anyone done this?
