Yes there's still a hint of motoring journalist rubbish in there. To me the standard car doesn't feel "serious" as soon as you move off - I'm sure Hammond after often driving the latest sport cars would feel its very soft and comfortable! However it does feel different to the Roadster if that's what he meant.Jonttt wrote:He's summed up why I bought one nicely but I always preferred the soft top
To correct a slight error though the S54 roadsters came with the same stiffer suspension as the coupe
I'm not sure if he did. I agree that even the stiffer suspension was still too soft and was geared at meeting the needs of someone not driving the car hard. Its now an enthusiast car and hence why most have upgraded the suspension (especially as most needed new kit anyway).c_w wrote:Yes there's still a hint of motoring journalist rubbish in there. The dash shimmers constantly in the roadster (the top part of the dash that sits out most is most noticeable for a visual reference, or stick a finger between the dash and the door capping whilst driving; in the Coupe there is no movement, but in the roadster you can feel shimmer).
I've driven 5 roadsters; 2 2.8s and 3 Ms - the only thing I couldn't put up with was the constant unsettled feeling. The Coupe was a revelation and I bought it on the spot! I would imagine driving a roadster with a hardtop does add a degree of structural stiffness though. I've always said some people don't seem to notice it but I can't stand the secondary wobbles of most cabriolets.
