Good brake pad DIY
Morning all,
I've had a look in the knowledgebase and there seems to be a guide with very little pics and one by aceman for changing the discs (which is far more what I'm after)
Are there any others kicking about? I assume I don't need any special tools?

I had mine changed in a local garage, £30 labour not worth getting dirty

A very simple job to change the pads. Changing the shoes is more difficult, but no more difficult than changing shoes on any car.
I would always recommend DIY as garages bodge things and don't tell you about what they've done (such as bypassing the wear-out sensor ).

As witnessed on my car with a receipt for new brake pads fitted at a well known chain of tyre/exhaust/brake fitters. Obviously, I can't prove it was them, but the pads were new when I got the car, and so was the receipt.garythefish wrote:Wow there's a big sweeping statementpingu wrote:http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11889

I guess they would just sweep the problem under the carpet .

My bro had already made one up thank god but there was a panic moment when I noticed a lack of 7mm hex's in two tool kits.RemarkLima wrote:The only odd one on all BMW's is a 7mm hex socket... 90% of all socket sets seem to come with 6mm and 8mm so can be a PITA to find a 7mm in a hurry
I'm sure the guides mention this but worth stressing IME.
Does anyone happen to know if the back pads are as straightforward? (Due to handbrake?)

I would get lots of penertrating fluid on the disc brake carrier bolts in preperatin during this week as my front left was a real pain in the arse to undo. The thread was slightly stripped so as a temperary repair I cut a small groove in the bolt to act as a tapping bolt and used a bit of heat on the carrier to get the bolt back in. I'm now after a replacement carrier as I hate bodging but stealer prices for this part made me raise my eye brows more than a tad.
