When I fitted my hardtop and new HRW switch at the rear of the console I removed the standard red LED as it was quite dull and not really noticeable.

This got me thinking of upgrading to a blue LED like the Clifford ones as they are much brighter, but I didn't know where to mount it. Anyway after seeing the newer BMW's I noticed that all the alarm LED's are situated in the rear view mirror so I decided to mount a nice new 10mm bright blue one there. Took the mirror apart and mounted the LED at the bottom and connected the wires back to the original LED wiring meaning it flashes exactly as the standard one.

It is much more visible outside when mounted in the rear view mirror and very bright at night time.

There's a couple of videos (not the best!) on youtube of it working here:

I can't remember which one it was, I brought a 10mm blue led and then an led bezel that will fit a 10mm led in it. I think something along the lines of this one should work. You can also get them in different colours.

If you could squeeze the led through into the mirror from the top where the wires enter to the bottom you may be able to do it without taking the mirror apart but you need to be extremely careful when drilling the hole not to hit anything inside the mirror. Other than this strip the mirror apart but be very careful. I don't know how much is inside the ///M mirror so you may need to open it anyway to see what's in there as this will also depend on where you can mount the LED.

* EDIT - You have a PM mate :D

well with some help from g8jka and a little pressy through the post we now have a full new up and running LED....cheers buddy ;)
when i sat in the car this morning i looked at the mirror...and started pondering how i was going to fit it..... luckily i took a drink out with me and low and behold there was a much easier solution....the LED is so bright you can even see it in the daytime 8-)
what do you think
