Realistic M Price?

Post by TitanTim »

I've had my eye on this M for about 3 years being sold by a BMW specialist

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3M-3-2-R ... 2576713e17

Originally it was priced at £8995 then suddenly price went upto 12K  I've been keeping an eye on it to see if they would drop the price. Anyways its gone up over night to 12.5K :(

OK the mileage is lowish, but it doesn't look mint.

What would be a realistic asking price or is it an April Fools?

I’m not aware of any general trend for Z3 prices going up – not quite yet anyway. :( I think that as prices are now “off the radar” in terms of official trade prices, some sellers fancy testing the market. My observation is that you could probably buy a very tidy, similar age Porsche 911 for that current asking price. The original price looks more realistic.

I get the feeling the seller has priced it high and relying on someone eventually paying the full asking price but after 3 years you would think they would drop the price to sell. If I trade mine in against it then looking at 10K but feeling its still too much :? The low mileage is appealing to me hence the interest.

Tim,

That is top drawer price for a car that has not even been detailed before the photos were taken, dirty carpets, door shuts, engine bay etc.

IMO there is nothing special about that ///M and it certainly should does not warrant the price it is being advertised for. Your car Tim is in as good a condition as you could wish for and someone will get a fantastic car if you choose to sell.

Not a mint car, not worth that amount

I've seen plenty of better private ones.

Unusual dealer prepared to sit on stock for 3-years, speculating on a higher price amidst a recession. Presumably he’s been paying business bank charges for 3-years on the initial price he paid? Perhaps he banks in Cyprus. :D

It is a nice car with a hard top and low mileage – if he is working to a different price scale he should offer you at least £6,000 for your immaculate 1.9.

It's not a bad idea to buy a car and price it high on the day you buy it, then change the price relative to what it is worth to you at the time.

To just keep increasing it = he doesn't want to sell.

Also, if he's a trader, he has to show HMRC that he is actively advertising the car in order to keep it on his books and get the tax advantages  .

Never good to leave a car for 3 years not being driven,I'd avoid even at the lower price.

That is a very good point
Assets/stock as of April 1st
And a lose next year when he reduces the price

I'm no ///M officianado but it does look over priced for the condition in which it's advertised. I have always thought/said that I never wanted an ///M as my enjoyment came partly from doing mods to my car. But I have a confession I feel I'm being drawn to the dark side too
John's ///M in Yorkshire looks a better buy IMHO

Thanks for the replies, glad there are sensible heads on here

I would say mine is in better nick but then it should be the time I've spent looking after it, but doubt I would get more than 2K trade in :( however been getting an itch for an ///M

Interesting peoples thought on pushing the sticker price up :x but to me that price is mint S54 money :?

I can't remember now Jon, thought it somewhere around 11K, if the one above was around the 9K mark I would be more interested but its just too expensive.

Very cheeky prices!
Great.... I love it! :D

Could it be that finally these cars are getting the recognition they deserve?
Incredible rarity combined with such a high 'Bang for your buck' rating, maybe they are starting to become the cherished collector's and museum pieces that we have speculated about for so long?

Black with red/black is my second fave combo... very very 8-) and the Sytner example looks a peach, especially when you consider it would come with 1 year BMW AUC warranty (which is genuinely excellent) and the option to extend (which is not so excellent).

Personally, I couldn't give a stuff if you could get an old 911 for the same price.
Gimme the Z3 ///M any day!

Hope they sell....

I've seen the black one close up.

PJ Automotive is an independant BMW garage in Stoke who have done some work on my car on a couple of occasions since last August.

To be fair it is a nice car and obviously has not wanted for anything since it is the personal car of one of the partners, and he has owned it for some time. I don't think he is desperate to sell and is just chancing his luck.

However, as others have said, you could get a nice one for at least £4k less and without that boot rack.

Regards

Brilliant news, mines just been serviced, mot'd, new tyres, now on 33k miles with hard top. No boot rack.

I just fitted a retro looking mech less Bluetooth radio with DAB+ etc.

I will be glad to see these hit the £10k mark at least.

On the M it's to counteract the effect of the acceleration...... :D

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Or get both :D

Cartel pricing dictates that car is tooooooo cheap.

Seriously I don't think a dealer would retain stock for 3 years unless he is using it himself as a daily driver ;-) When he really wants to sell it he will drop the price.

Thanks Peter, I'm in Stafford so the dealer isn't far from me, I was guessing whether the M belonged to one of the staff as the price keeps going up. The boor rack isn't a deal breaker as you can always remove it

Just seems odd they keep sticking it on e-bay? its definitely been up for sale for around 3 years, I just wished I had gone for it back then at £8995  as an ///M would be looking for one below 50K :)

I also think prices have now bottomed and we will see prices increase over the coming years.

The more the cars enter the hands of people who plan to keep there cars for a long time the higher the prices will go as, the availability of 'good' cars will reduce.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but I think now in the time to buy if you are thinking of joining the club
