Z3M?

Post by Strikem »

Hi all,

Is there a common problem with a power steering on the z3?

Might be rusted from the looks of things?? I'm going to clean all the mess up that's been gathering over the weeks/months under the car, then get it on a ramp to have a closer look.

Also where might I be able to get a part from to fix it, if its rusted?

Thanks in advance.

My mistake, power steering fluid is fine! Got it on a ramp and checked all the hoses. It looks like a small leak from the drivers side somewhere. It's really minamal so will get an expert to check it out this week.

If it is towards the rear it is quite possibly the oil constant pressure valve which is located at the back of the block on the drivers side. The O'Ring is known to fail after a few years and needs replacing which you can do either by sourcing a new O'Ring from a 3rd party supplier or purchasing a complete new valve from BMW as they don't just sell the o'ring on its own.

If you do a search on here there is a thread all about it and even a possible source of free o'rings and removal tool if you can locate them.
