looking for a nice z3m roadster

Post by chill4x4saph »

hi everyone,

great forum!, seems like a genuinely helpful and friendly group of enthusiasts (and from what ive read, nothing like the pettiness that plagues so many forums!!)

im a new member, but ive been aware of the forum for a while and occasionally browsed it with much interest. im currently m roadster-less!, however id really like to change this situation!

Ive had two in the past, but a long time ago, I had an estoril blue s50 between 2000-2002 reg number s136jec, and a phoenix yellow s54 between 2002-2003 reg number rg51afu (which was a bmw press car).
anyway ive always regretted selling them as I really loved them both, and after having a few other cars that to me come a poor second to what is a truly great vehicle, ive decided to try and find myself another!, not really bothered if its an s50 or a 54, but im really after an estoril blue (or silver, green, or yellow, but preferably estoril) one with ac and the lowest miles/best condition I can find (or rather afford! lol!)

condition/miles is the important issue as I don't really have the inclination these days to take on a project, im after something that can sit in the garage and maybe do a couple of thousand miles a year in summer.

anyway, if anyone is in the market to sell, let me know!

cheers!, chris.

I just looked at what looks like a cracking car with only 36k on the clock

eBay Z3M £9k if I was looking to swap mine I would go for this

thanks for the info, but I actually had a look at that the other day (its only 30 mile from me)

its not horrible, but the photos make it look a lot nicer than it is, and I really don't believe the mileage.

ive not owned one for a while, but ive kept my eye in with them and I don't see that one at 9k.

but thanks, again.

it does look lovely in the pics, and its not horrid like I say, but the drivers bolster, and the big gap in service stamp dates just don't add up, I see it at around 7k tops really, and im not trying to do its value down or trying to get my hands on one for a steal or anything, but it just doesn't look like a very well looked after car.

there was one last week on pistonheads, an s54 with 21000 miles for 14K, but I missed it. :-(

thanks Brian,

lovely looking thing, and if I was after one to use regularly id be very into it, but ideally id like to try and find one with a bit fewer miles and as I want something to keep for a few years and use very little I think a more stock looking one would hold its value better, just my opinion, that said I bet its a very impressive car in the flesh!!

I still have my Dakar Yellow Z3M, was planning to wait another couple of months before advertising but you might be interested.

hi Gazza,
thanks for the info!,
someone else sent me a link to it also.

it is a lovely thing, and I fully agree a good price for an honest car, but id like to try and find something with a bit fewer miles (if I can), and as I want to use it very minimally, I think something more stock standard looking would hold its money better.

but like I said before when it was first pointed out to me, if I was after one to use more regularly, id be right into it, I bet its very impressive in the flesh!!

Go for condition and low miles, the perfect match!

And if it's unmodded then that's a bonus too!

yeah I know!! ;-)

for 15k id really expect to be buying an s54, in very nice condition, with a/c, sub 50,000 miles!

the last one I sold (the phoenix yellow one), only had 1800 miles on it when it left me!!! I could kick myself!!!!!!!

Ha!

I have to admit, I've seen a lot of m roadsters (first zed fest).

The best three I've seen are mine, Liam's (z3cade) and Hornel (Paul's) and I'm one of the fussiest people around.

That's not being big headed just speaking from what I've seen.

Two estoril and a silver.

Good luck in your search, you will need it!

there was one a fortnight ago on pistonheads, 2002 s54 estoril blue, hardtop, 21000 , offers around £14000, but by the time id sold my car to raise the funds it had gone!!,
like I say, im not to bothered about s54 or s50 as imo after having both when they were fairly new cars, (s50 had 8000 miles on, s54 came to me with 800 miles and left me with 1800 miles!!!), and there was no time between owning them (I drove down to pick up the s54 in the s50), I didn't feel a massive difference, the s54 may have been slightly faster, but I would have said 10-15hp at the very most, but I actually at first preferred the (again imo) character of the s50 motor.

I know its not an easy search, but hopefully ill find one!!!

Lower milage doesn't always means better. Like you found out with the 30k one on eBay.
Your looking in the right place though. Generally the best examples are owned by enthusiasts.

all joking aside, ive never driven any non m z3's, are they that slow?, I mean back when I first passed my test when the current model bmw was the e30 3 series, I had a few 318i's and a few 320 and 325i's and my favourite by far was the 318, lovely little cars to drive, in fact to this day Ive not found many cars that are as balanced and pleasant to drive as a 318i....., got me all misty eyed!! lol!

Good luck on your search. I was watching the market all last year with cash waiting for a low mileage S54. In the end i settled for a low mileage S50.

I did go look at a couple but just as bandman gee is, I'm quite fussy with the attention to detail.

thank you!!..., like I said before the s54 would be nice, but the mileage condition is more important to me personally, I really don't think there's very much difference between them at all.

they do seem to be getting more difficult to find!, ive kept my eye on them and prices of them ever since I sold my others but never been in the situation to buy one and not have to use it as transport until now.

If I do find one I doubt i'd end up putting more than a thousand miles a year on it.

Hi
I have just got my girl on the road again as she has been on sorn for the last two years. Many people on this site will know the car, as until the unexpected death of my wife 6 years ago we were were regular participants in events organised by the club. I havent visited the site since 2012, but thought I would try here first, as everyone knows what a lovely car she is. I have just taken some pics of her.
Details are
1998 S50 Estoril Blue, 39K miles only, matching hardtop, number plate included, (M POWER), matching leather armrests, wind deflector, plus numerous other bits and bobs fitted including a chrome grill leather blank in the pax grab handle etc, the best upgrade I did was to replace the terrible foot well speakers with much better ones and fitted a Clarion active sub woofer behind the drivers seat with a remote control to increase or decrease the bass and a filter, real kick in the back bass! it has a cd auto changer in the boot and I have fitted a 12 volt power socket there.
I have just spent nearly £1500 (gulp!) getting her back on the road this included new nsr brake calliper new rear pads, 2 new rear springs and of course a full service and new MOT, I have just taxed her for 6 months, and she drives like a dream.
The service found the compressor was leaking hence no air con, I never used it anyway!
i still have the hardtop on, so have not had a chance to look at the electric roof. I will do so as soon as possible, but although it was waterproof, it was showing signs of wear and tear, and needs replacing really. They are in the £400 range on e bay.
I have forgotton how to post pics, let me know if you are interested, and we can talk price. regards mike

yeah its full black trim, its number 60. I know it is because of the date it was made, early 2002.
and its got a hardtop, and just done 22000 miles.
its very very straight, in fact the only thing wrong with it (at least the only thing I can so far think of) is that I probably cant bring myself to use it!!, its looks like a six month old car.
